Samsung - Generation 17

Generation17 is a partnership between Samsung and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) that, “elevates the voices of young leaders who are changing the world and contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or Global Goals. Samsung and UNDP are providing mentorship, technology, and networking opportunities for the young leaders as they advance their work.”

This work has been unique in both the stories that are told and the global situation they were created in. In the midst of the global Covid-19 pandemic we had to get creative to bring these stories to life. This series was shot remotely from all around the world.

I served the role of art director, director, and editor for these videos. As part of my worked with young leaders on creating realistic shot lists while also navigating Covid shutdowns, national policy, and keeping our young leaders safe. We worked through language barriers, cultural differences, time changes, remote filming, and a pandemic.

Part of my work was talking the young leaders through setting up an interview and couching them on b-roll capture. We faced many challenges including getting equipment to remote locations and uploading footage when internet access is not always guaranteed.

This is a project that challenged me in ways I hadn’t been before but I am extremely grateful to get to play a role in bringing these amazing stories to life visually and amplifying the voices of young leaders who are changing the world.
